WARNING: Residual form bucket bitmap optimization failed validation test. Please run fixup on this database.

Looking for advice and information on the following error message.

WARNING: Residual form bucket bitmap optimization failed validation test.  Please run fixup on this database.

After upgrading to Domino 9.0.1 this message started to appear on the Domino console. The message doesn't state the database that it applies to, but it has been determined that it results from running a copy-style compact on databases.

In this case, there is a weekly scheduled compact job run on key application databases. These databases are replicated to multiple servers and each server runs its only weekly compact task. The message appears for only a couple of databases (out of 100's), but does not occur on all replicas of the same database. Fixup is also run on these databases on a regular basis, but this does not resolve the problem.

Unfortunately there is no immediately available, official advice on this message. I have found the following abstract reference from a search, but no genuine reference -

LO45688: RESIDUAL FORM BUCKET BITMAP OPTIMIZATION FAILED VALIDATION TEST. PLEASE RUN FIXUP ON THIS DATABASE.

Is this a recurring issue?

David,

If this is a recurring issue, you may want to look at disabling the Optimize document table map property. It has a very specific purpose that may not actually provide any benefit in your case. If it's a one-time issue, simply running Fixup should fix the problem. If it's a recurring issue and you need the optimization, you'll want to open a PMR so we can investigate.

Hope this helps!

It's a recurring behaviour in my case, seems a bug

Hi,

In my case I have a 20 GB database and around 1,000,000 document.

I have repeated Load compact -c (copy style) many times after upgrading and the same error occur every time until I disabled Optimize document table map property with compact -f

It seems there is a bug in this release of Domino. Optimize document table map was working in previous releases and never caused a problem.

Best Regards,
Samer

If you're able to open a PMR, tag it with SPR DCOE7X7L3W. That has been around for awhile, so I'm not sure why this would be happening specifically in 9.0.1.

Correction - IBM will not fix it for now !!!!

Hi,

To update this forum.... after spending several months with IBM on this case, they decided that they won't fix it for now and it needs a new ODS.

They are also waiting for enough client to report it to take it to the top of the queue.

If you face similar error please report it so that IBM give it more attention.

This error is available since 8.5 version and IBM didn't fix it yet !!!

IBM Domino Server is not very friendly with large databases, and disabling this option will make it even worse...

We are expecting to improve performance with new releases not to worsen it.

Best Regards,
Samer Ghosn

Update

The upgrade was last summer done last summer successfully. The error message does not imply that there is an issue with the database or the data itself, it signals an limitation in the amount of data we can store/track when using the optimized document table map. The limitation is a resultant of the number of forms (250+ in this application case), the number of buckets needed (a bucket represents a storage unit in NSF) and the number of documents and their size.
